How a Healthy Heart Supports a Healthy Brain

When heart health is compromised, the brain can be affected too.

Research has shown that conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, and poor cardiovascular health can reduce blood flow to the brain over time, increasing the risk of cognitive decline and stroke later in life.

It is encouraging to know that many of the same habits that protect your heart also support your brain.

These are:

  • Regular physical activity
  • Quality sleep
  • A balanced, nutrient-rich diet
  • Managing stress
  • Staying hydrated

As a pediatric neurologist, I often remind families that brain health isn’t just about the brain. It’s influenced by the health of the entire body, including the heart.

Taking care of one is one of the best ways to care for the other.
