What kind of Quick Exercises can Help Improve my Child’s Attention and Memory?

Did you know even short burts of physical activity can boost your child’s attention and memory

Parents often ask me how to improve focus, and my answer surprises them!

Recent research shows that just 10–15 minutes of physical activity, like running, skipping, or even playful jumping, can significantly improve children’s attention, working memory, and executive control (their ability to plan, focus, and manage tasks).

When children move, their brains release chemicals like dopamine, norepinephrine, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF).

These help sharpen focus, enhance learning, and strengthen connections in areas of the brain responsible for problem-solving and decision-making.

Studies indicate that children who regularly participate in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity show improved performance in tasks requiring concentration and short-term memory.

Research also highlights the immediate benefits of even a single active break, which can significantly boost on-task behavior in students following the break.

Movement isn’t just good for physical health, it’s brain fuel.
